About the Teacher Mrs. Christopher graduated from BYU-Idaho in April 2007 with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Special Education. She began her professional career teaching Kindergarten at Pleasant Green later that year. In July 2014, she completed a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. This school year marks the beginning of her 12th year teaching Kindergarten. She also participates as a teacher in the After School Program, assisting Kindergarten and 1st grade students with homework completion. Mrs. Christopher is married, and lives in Bountiful. When she has spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, walking/hiking, four-wheelers, and nail art.
My teaching philosophy: I strongly feel that one of the most important purposes of Kindergarten is to teach a love of school and create a passion for learning. I try to maintain a fairly fast-paced, interactive environment with some developmentally appropriate play as time allows (children deserve to be children). I also try to teach students that it's okay to do new/hard things; and that it's okay if you're not good at something right away. I believe in teaching respect and responsibility (I rarely do something for a child that he/she is capable of doing his/herself). I hope to create a positive classroom environment where students feel welcome, safe, cared for, respected, valued, and willing to try new things. I believe this is an environment that best promotes learning and academic progress.
You can refer to my beginning-of-year letter for further information about classroom rules, where/how to drop off or pick up your student, what students should bring to school, etc. A copy of this letter can be found here.
